Radiology for Treating Sleep Apnea in Bellevue, WA
The use of radiographs—usually referred to as X-rays—is an important part of preventive medicine. We use X-rays to penetrate the airway, sinus, and jaw tissue in order to discover hidden issues that may not be immediately visible to the naked eye. Although radiography equipment has been in use for several decades, recent developments in technology have made X-rays safer and more accurate than ever before.
What are the uses?
When most people think of X-rays, they consider that the equipment is used to view bone tissue in order to discover fractures or breaks therein. While this is true, radiographs are actually used for much more than that.
At Premier Sleep Associates, our professional radiology technicians use the latest equipment to look inside of your upper respiratory areas without the need for invasive techniques. Using our equipment, we can easily locate and identify any abnormalities such as irregular structures, tissue masses, or other similar items. Further, we can generally get a good idea of what may be necessary in order to correct any abnormal conditions, and what kind of preparations and recovery time may be involved.
We can do all of this without ever subjecting you to uncomfortable exploratory procedures thanks to the use of our highly advanced medical imaging systems. When we need to see a specific area in your respiratory system, we can use low dosages of targeted X-rays to produce an image in our equipment.
Every scan we perform on you is then reviewed by a board-certified professional to ensure accurate and timely interpretation. Based on his or her findings, we can then discuss with you your various options and the accompanying advantages and disadvantages of each.
Is it dangerous?
In years past, the use of X-ray equipment involved exposing the patient to higher levels of radiation than is required today. Our equipment is highly sophisticated and uses the lowest levels of radiation possible. Because of advances in technology and technique, undergoing a radiological scan today involves a much lower exposure to radiation than in years past. As a result, the radiation you are exposed to during one of these procedures is at such a low level as to be negligible. In other words, it is perfectly safe.
